Banner advertising seems to be the most effective form of internet advertising. Banner ads can appear anywhere on a web page, and allow the viewer to be interactive with the ad. I see banner ads everyday for products that are mainly sports related. I spend a lot of time on sports web sites, so I am subject to various tickets, merchandise, and team related banner ads. I will click on banner ads that are advertising Michigan or Bears merchandise.
www.espn.com and www.si.com both featured banner ads today that were designed to attract the attention of football fans seeking new merchandise.
I agree with the assesment that banner blindness is real, and a possible advertising problem. I do not pay very close attention to material on a page that is not directly linked to the story that I am involved in with. I also believe that people have become more aware of the tricks that banner ads can pull, so I would expect to see less success in banner ads that represent themselves as message boxes

I agree that banner ads are successful, but I also agree with you that sometimes they are annoying and can lead or misdirect the consumer.
